Topic of workshop

Millennial-scale climate variability over the last glacial period in tropical and subtropical America

Overview

The LaACER (Latin American Abrupt Climate Changes and Environmental Responses) initiative brings together Latin American and international experts interested in millennial-scale climate variability over the last glacial period in tropical and subtropical America. The first LaACER workshop, held in December 2012, provided the opportunity for participants to present new data, engage in interdisciplinary discussions, broaden their scientific network, and brainstorm about research strategies to improve our understanding of millennial-scale climate variability using Heinrich events and Dasgaard-Oeschgerd cycles as analogs of abrupt climate change.

The main goals of LaACER II are fostering capacity building, strengthening synergies between ocean, terrestrial and modeling communities, and promoting scientific deliberation on millennial-scale climate variability during the last glacial in tropical and subtropical America.
