The international and interdisciplinary workshop "Using Arctic driftwood at the interface of marine and terrestrial (paleo-) environmental research" will take place in Iceland from 27-30 April 2016.


The Icelandic Forest Research Institute Mógilsá (, which is located ~20km northwest of Reykjavik, Iceland.

Workshop aims

Organizing and coordinating future fieldwork activities.
Joining forces towards a cross-disciplinary driftwood review paper.
Fundraising and proposal writing to improve international driftwood research.
Implementing the newly generated momentum of this workshop into the PAGES' initiative.

Workshop logistics

Oral presentations of 30 minutes should provide research updates.
Short abstracts of possible contributions will be collected well in advance.
Travel should be organized individually though we are happy to assist at any time.
Financial support of €200 per participant will cover accommodation, food and excursion.
This invitation should be forwarded to colleagues that might be interested in joining this initiative.


Registrations close 31 October 2015, to allow organization of a smooth, cross-disciplinary workshop.

Workshop details

The workshop will be open for everyone and we strongly encourage you to distribute this invitation among other scholars interested in the various aspects of marine and terrestrial (paleo-) environmental research for which Arctic driftwood could be important.

In order to keep costs as low as possible, we have applied for financial support from PAGES.
