Past Global Changes (PAGES) seeks a Communications and Project Officer to work at the International Project Office (IPO) in Bern, Switzerland.

Description

PAGES is an international network coordinating and promoting past global change research. From our IPO based at the University of Bern, we encourage international and interdisciplinary collaboration across the global paleoclimate community.

We are seeking a Communications and Project Officer from 1 July 2021, for communications and project administration, as well as some office management.

This position comprises mostly day-to-day communication and administration tasks. We are looking for a native English speaker with a background in project management and/or science communication, with good communication and organizational skills, and a general appreciation for climatic, environmental, or sustainability science.

Ideally, you are a hands-on person, with good attention to detail and initiative. You will be required to use your creativity to enhance PAGES' communications – e.g. the website, social media, and printed material.

Tasks

The main duties include:

- Developing content for PAGES' website and social media channels.
- Keeping the PAGES Products, Calendar, and Jobs pages up to date.
- Liaising with international working group leaders and working group members to create and maintain solid professional relationships.
- Liaising with PAGES Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) members and ensuring the various SSC deadlines are met.
- Acting as point of contact for PAGES subscribers and maintaining the subscriber database.
- Writing and editing English text for PAGES publications: The Past Global Changes Magazine, the monthly e-news, and other correspondence and publications as necessary.
- Communicating PAGES' activities and news via the website and social media.
- Planning and organizing PAGES meetings, including preparing documents for the annual SSC Meeting.
- Assisting with reporting to funders and parent organizations and preparing proposals.
- Assisting with communications and organization of PAGES' upcoming flagship event, the 6th Open Science Meeting and 4th Young Scientists Meeting in Agaddir, Morocco, in May 2022.
- Organizing and maintaining PAGES project files.
- Preparing and maintaining the monthly IPO meeting agenda, minutes and calendar.

Requirements

- Journalism, communications, or project management degree.
- At least three years' experience in a similar communications or project management role.
- Native English speaker, or to a very high level (C1).
- Experience with a content management system (ideally DRUPAL).
- Good working knowledge of various software, including Microsoft and Adobe, and proficiency on Apple Mac.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Able to build and maintain professional relationships.
- You are reliable and you work precisely and independently.
- Interest in the sciences, particularly paleoscience and past global changes.
