Applications are invited for a 2-year postdoctoral research position beginning March 2009 (or thereafter) to conduct research under the topic: “Spatiotemporal pattern of European vegetation change”. The successful applicant will focus on using pollen diagrams to map and analyse the pattern of changes in tree abundance in Europe with a focus on central Europe. He/she will work closely with the European Pollen Database (EPD) and other pollen and macrofossil databases and help in the handling and acquisition of datasets. The successful candidate is expected to engage in collaborations with other European and International projects, which requires a certain amount of travelling. This is a full time position (39,8 hours/week). The monthly gross salary for the position (salary class 13 TV-L) will range within €2,900-3,400, commensurate with applicants experience.
The successful candidate will have completed a PhD degree in biological or earth sciences. He/she should have a good knowledge of the Holocene vegetation history in Europe, experience in pollen analysis or database management and a strong background in numerical analysis.
